Showing My Work

Whether you’re a second grader trying to explain how you completed a math problem (my son, William) or an adult trying to improve a skill (me), showing your work can be hard.

Sometimes you don’t show your work because you want to be done and off to recess. Other times you don’t because you’re a perfectionist and overly concerned with what the response might be. Either way, showing your work can be a challenge but highly beneficial. Most notably, when you share you learn.

This was one of the concepts shared in Austin Kleon’s best-selling book Show Your Work, that I read last year. Since then, I’ve been trying to be better about not only writing and creating but also showing and sharing the things I’ve been working on.

More often than not I suffer from analysis paralysis, criticizing my work to the point where I don’t end up publishing anything. This situation isn’t unique to me - I even run into this with clients where I use the “do as I say, not as I do” approach, as any good parent would!

With a new year underway, I felt now is the best time to take on the goal of publishing at least one post per week here on my site.

My plan is to share a mix of in-depth stories alongside short-form posts, all with the goal of entertaining, informing and getting me out of my perfectionist comfort zone.

Below is an ongoing list of my 2022 weekly posts and updates to help keep me accountable. Feel free to click through to individual posts or subscribe to my email list to be notified when the newest post is up.
